Gallery Quality photographic images are typically referred to by two names, Giclée Prints (pronounced zhee-clay) mostly for Canvas Prints or Archival Pigment Ink (API) prints for all other types of paper media. Originally called Giclée prints they were created by scanning original works of art and printing them on expensive, very high-quality, drum printers or professional ink-jet and laser printers. These Giclée prints rapidly replaced Serigraphs and Lithographs as the alternative for original art and now are the most popular medium for fine art reproductions.
The Giclée process has evolved to printing photographs. These prints use three main technologies; Archival pigment inks, high-resolution large format ink-jet printers and museum-quality, acid free canvas and papers.
Artistry Printing uses only the 12 pigment-ink jet printers and the finest materials available to make our canvas and paper prints. You will find other printing services claiming Giclée quality but are only using 8 or even 6-ink printers with the corresponding reduction in color depth. You should check with your print provider and understand what equipment they use.
